Leatherman Kick Pocket Tool - An Appealing Choice That's Compact But Still Equipped With Useful Tools
The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a range of 3 tools produced by Leatherman, the other models being the Fuse and the Blast.
Leatherman Kick - A Lightweight Tool
The Leatherman Kick includes plastic set into the body of the pocket tool which makes it a good deal more comfortable to carry than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a very welcome addition, as anyone who has bought and made use of a PST will confirm! The set of pliers have been updated to increase strength without increasing the pocket tool's size or bulk, and seems to have made a difference- they are peculiar to look at for people who are used to other variations, nevertheless this is a tool, not a fashion show, and they work.
The Leatherman Kick also includes a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, two flathead screwdrivers, and a clip- point knife. The tool range may be bare on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of the three models. The upside is that the tools (primarily the screwdrivers) seem to be a little better than other multi's - the shafts are a little longer, giving slightly more versatility than you might be used to, and an improved chance at hard to reach screws. It's a small thing, but it really does add up - especially if it's the one tool you have by your side and the screw is buried inside of something.
Leatherman Kick - Includes an Extended Screwdriver
There is no doubt about it, the Kick is a nice tool, but it does have it's drawbacks. Due to it's light weight, the Kick feels flimsy. As it is supported by Leatherman's 25 year warranty, it is very well made, although in comparison to many other tools both greater in size and smaller, it doesn't seem to be quite as strong. Also, it may come across as a little small to people with large hands.
On an important note, despite the lack of numerous tools on the product, it still suffers from Leatherman's infamous curse, tool clumping. Why can it be, that a handle with just 3 tools built in, all come out in the case that you try to get only one? With revised designs of tools, this problem should be a forgotten memory.
The Leatherman Kick is good value for money, but not a good choice for a regular user or a bigger person. My suggestion is that it's better suited as a small tool for a lady's purse or as a child's first tool. It could be seen as a "cute" tool for those folks that occasionally need tools and like to be prepared.
